With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, here are the official results of the Lincoln City Council race. The top three won an at-large seat on the council.

There was plenty of cheering and hand shaking at the GOP Headquarters Tuesday night as Republicans picked up two seats on the Lincoln City Council.

Roy Christensen was the overall results winner. He said he's excited to join the team and already has big plans for the city.

"I'd like to see the south beltway prioritized. 18 people died on Highway 2 in the last 12 years inside the city of limits of Lincoln. And the other issue is economic growth and development. That will be a huge addition to the great projects we have in our city," said Christensen.

Mark Whitehead just missed making it into the top three, and although he's disappointed he's hopeful the new council will move the city in a positive direction.

"The election has been one of moving Lincoln forward and not being dismissive; being one of representing all 270,000 people in the city of Lincoln. I hope the new council can move Lincoln in that direction," said Whitehead.

The Democrats still maintain a majority on the council, 4-3. We caught up with Lancaster County Democratic Chair, John Yoakum as the results were coming in.

"I just want to thank everyone in Lincoln that voted, and for those that didn't vote, don't complain," he said.

Yoakum told Channel 8 Eyewitness News that it was vital the democrats win at least one seat, so they could maintain majority on the Lincoln City Council.

The lone incumbent, Gene Carroll, missed the third and final spot by nearly 3,000 votes.

Meg Mikolajczyk was in second place after the first round of votes, but finished in fifth place with just more than 16,297 total votes.

Mikolajczyk didn't join the race until late February, after Roger Dodson withdrew.

"I just want to thank everyone who took a chance on the late race candidate," she said.

The three new city council members will be sworn in at the May 20th meeting.
