A gas leak shut down several streets just east of downtown Lincoln.

Hazmat crews responded to the incident that happened near 18th and Q streets at 9:30 this morning.  Crews were working on a section of road in the area.

Police shut down Antelope Valley Parkway and 19th street to traffic while responding to the gas leak.

"Fortunately, natural gas is lighter than air. We got a good strong wind and the gas is not migrating underground anywhere. We've checked the surrounding buildings and the construction site to the north, they're all clear,"  Acting Battalion Chief Jim Bopp said.

Again, this was a piece of road being worked on and the leak did not occur at the nearby construction site. Black Hills Energy should have the line repaired before noon.
