The family of Jake Burnside released a statement Friday.  Jake is the lone survivor of a car crash that killed three of his friends near Fremont on June 3rd.

The Burnside family released the following statement:

We're happy to report Jake's condition has been upgraded to fair. He came through a 10-hour surgery and recovery yesterday very successfully. Doctors used eight metal plates and 40 screws on his facial bones. Another surgery for a broken collarbone went well also.

At this time, he's walked from his bed to a chair in his room and Wednesday night, he was reading the sports section of the newspaper. He's doing word recognition exercises with the staff here and last night, he was able to write the words "I love you."

Hopefully, barring any complications, he'll be moved to a rehabilitation center next week to continue his recovery.

Please keep the Blick, Hansen and Walling families in your thoughts and prayers.

The Burnside family thanks everyone for their prayers, support and visits.
Sincerely,
Carter and Karen Burnside

Jake was critically injured in the accident that killed his friends Tyler Walling, Jackson Blick, and Trey Hansen.  The car they were in rolled on Old Highway 8 and Highway 275.  Jake was flown to an Omaha hospital.  He is now recovering from a surgery where doctors used eight metal plates and 40 screws to repair Jake Burnside's facial bones, his family said. Doctors also did surgery on his broken collarbone.
