Residents across Lincoln will be lacing up their running shoes this weekend for the People's City Mission 5th annual "Run 4 the Homeless."
The run is always a great way for supporters to come out and raise money for those in need. But this year, the run is undergoing some changes.
The 5k is moving across town to the south side and will start outside the Scheels Sporting Goods parking lot. Pastor Tom Barber of the mission says Scheels is hosting the event this year, which is different than in the past.
"We've got a trail on the south side of Lincoln all mapped out," Barber said. "Very, very exciting."
Barber said he expects about 500 people to come out and support the cause, and hopes to raise as much as $20,000 for the mission.
"The cool thing is, is that all the fun we're having is helping feed folks and raising the support for the folks in Lincoln that are in need of our help," Barber said.
But for Barber, the run is not just about raising money. He also considers the run a social event.
"We're pretty excited about just connecting with some of the people that support us throughout the year," Barber said. "We get a chance to see them and talk with them. That's kind of cool. We enjoy that a lot."
The run will take place Saturday at 8 a.m. outside the Scheels Sporting Goods parking lot, and will last until about 9:15.
