The Saltdogs acquired veteran OF Mike Coles, a five-time champion, in a trade with the Winnipeg Goldeyes for future considerations Sunday.
The right-hander won two Frontier League championships with Windy City (2007, 2008), two Northern League titles with Fargo-Moorhead (2009, 2010) and a ring in the American Association with Winnipeg last year.
Coles, an eight-year professional, sports a career batting average of .299 with 151 doubles and 165 stolen bases in 641 games. The 30-year old from Hammond, Ind. is expected to play center field for the Saltdogs after the departure of Daniel Carroll to the Atlanta Braves.
Coles hit .279 last season with 20 doubles and 19 stolen bases, splitting his time between Gary and Winnipeg, helping the Goldeyes to their first American Association championship.
The Saltdogs open a three-game home series with Gary SouthShore Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m.
