A man is in critical condition in the hospital after his hand was amputated by a train early Saturday morning.

It happened at around 2 a.m. at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad near SW 31st and West O.

Police say the 23-year-old man was reaching under the stationary train to grab his dog when it started moving and dragged him 400 feet. They say his hand was amputated and his left foot has significant damages.
