ASHLAND, Neb. (AP) _ A former city councilman has pleaded not guilty to a charge that he stole water from the city of Ashland in eastern Nebraska.
The Lincoln Journal Stay says Chad Yochum made his plea Wednesday and asked for a non jury trial. Saunders County Attorney Scott Tingelhoff says the trial has been set for August 22nd.
The 39-year-old Yochum resigned his Ashland council seat last week, citing work commitments.
Yochum is one of two people charged with stealing water from Ashland. The other is 52-year-old Lorene Garrett, a neighbor of Yochum. Garrett also pleaded not guilty on Wednesday.
Police say Yochum disconnected his water meter and Garrett tampered with hers.
