BATESVILLE, Miss. —A trial date has been set in Panola County for a man charged in two North Mississippi highway shootings last year.

District Attorney John Champion said the capital murder trial for James Willie, of Sardis, Miss., in the shooting death of Thomas K. Schlender will be Aug. 12.

Champion said the state will seek the death penalty.

Schlender, of Raymond, Neb., was found on May 8, 2012. He had been shot to death inside his truck near Pope, Miss. Schlender was traveling from his home to Florida to pick up his grandson from college.

Willie also has been charged with murder in the May 11, 2012 shooting death of Lori Anne Carswell, of Hernando. Her body was found on the shoulder of Miss. 713 in Tunica County.
