The Channel 8 Weather Team made a special visit to the home of one of our Facebook Fans of the Day. Trey Geiger, a big Channel 8 weather fan, recently had scoliosis surgery and is now recovering.
Barb Geiger, Trey's mother, said Trey has limited mobility right now but is doing great. She said his condition has definitely not stopped him from pursuing his love for weather.
"This kid will stand out on the deck and watch the clouds," Geiger said. "He is just glued to the weather. He wants to see anything that has to do with the weather."
So Friday, Channel 8's very own Luke Dorris and Rachael Witter stopped by Trey's home with some weather tools. Rachael presented Trey with her very first meteorology textbook.
"I thought you would like to have that," Rachael said.
Luke gave the meteorologist-in-training a rain gauge.
"So when it storms, you can see how much rain you've got," Luke said. "If you want, you can call in and I'll put your name on air. We'll say, 'Trey saw two inches of rain at his house.'"
After Trey finished up his surgery about two weeks ago, he received over 1,400 "likes" as our Facebook Fan of the Day. His mom said it is humbling to see so many people support her son and his recovery process.
"He is the sweetest, kindest kid," Geiger said. "He's hard not to fall in love with, with the things he does. And I don't know, I'm just so lucky to have him."
Trey has a four to six month recovery period, and his mom said she is confident that by the time he starts school, he won't need his walker.
