OMAHA, Neb. (AP) Authorities say the boyfriend of a woman found dead in an open grave in Omaha has an arrest warrant that was issued one week ago, after he was accused of assaulting her.
Police said Friday they were still investigating the death of 19-year-old Melissa Rodriguez as a homicide. Rodriguez's body was found at Graceland Park Cemetery on Thursday morning.
UNL officials confirm that Melissa Rodriguez was enrolled at UNL during Fall 2012. She was enrolled for just one semester.
No arrests have been made, but the Douglas County attorney's office says 19-year-old Mikael Loyd is considered a person of interest in the case. According to an affidavit, Rodriguez was assaulted on June 11.
Officers who spoke with her reported that she had bruises on her arms and legs, but Rodriguez said she didn't want to press charges. Her family members voiced concerns that she was in an abusive relationship.
