A man pulled from the water at Branched Oak Lake has died. A family friend says 54-year-old James Lee from Greenwood, Neb. passed away Wednesday afternoon.
Last Sunday, Lee was found floating in the water and rescued by boaters. He was flown to Bryan West in Lincoln.
The family friend tells Channel 8 that Lee was taken off life support Wednesday.
Witnesses say they saw Lee swimming out to his jet-ski that had floated away around 12:30 p.m. After a few minutes, Daniel Nordgren noticed he stopped moving.
"He was floating in the water face down, so we all got in the boat real quickly and went out there and my sons, when we got to him, my sons jumped into the water and brought him over to the boat and we brought him onto the pontoon and started CPR right away," Nordgren said.
One of the witnesses said Lee was at the lake with his wife, who could only watch the action from the beach.
"She was crying and she had come up here to begin with when they were still working on him on the boat, and I put my arm around her and was trying to console her," witness Sondra Young said.
When paramedics arrived, witnesses say they worked on the man for another 20 minutes before he was flown to the hospital in critical condition.
