BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) _ Authorities have released the name of a 53-year-old man who was killed in the crash of his Corvette at a mall parking lot in the southeast Nebraska city of Beatrice. The man was identified as William Snyder, of Beatrice. Authorities suspect Snyder was suffering some sort of medical problem before the crash.
The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. Scraps of a red Corvette cover the Indian Creek Mall parking lot in Beatrice.
"It hit primarily one car and the debris hit the other two cars," Sgt. Brian Carver said.
Police say Snyder died when he crashed into a light pole and damaged three other cars.
"It's probably a miracle there was no other fatalities. Without hitting that light pole he would have probably been into the mall, or into Arby's, or into the pedestrians coming in and out of the main parking lot area here," mall owner Stan Meyer said.
Witnesses say they saw the Corvette fly through the Hwy 77 and Industrial Road intersection, then entered the mall parking lot still speeding.
Mall owner Stan Meyer says an accident like this is a tragedy.
"Thing do happen, but it's extremely sad, we're very sorry for his widow," he said.
