Lincoln Public Schools announce all High school graduation dates will be on Sunday, May 25 – for class of 2014.

For a decade, Lincoln Public Schools has held four high schools graduations on Saturday and two graduations on Sunday – but all six graduation dates for the spring of 2014 will now be held on Sunday due to calendar conflicts.

Three of the high schools will be held at the Pinnacle Bank Arena for the first time.

The ceremonies for four high schools – Lincoln Northeast, Southwest, East and Southeast – were switched from Saturday, May 24, to Sunday, May 25. The Lincoln North Star ceremony was switched to later in the day on Sunday. Lincoln High School remains the same as scheduled.

"The State High School Track and Field championships have been set the weekend we had planned our graduation ceremonies, and we did not want to force students into the conflict of choosing between representing their school at the track meet – and participating in their graduation ceremonies," said Pat Hunter-Pirtle, director of Secondary Education at LPS. "Both are very important school-sponsored, once-in-a-lifetime events for seniors."

LPS high school graduation ceremonies for 2014 are scheduled as follows on Sunday, May 25:

  • Lincoln Northeast High School, noon, Pinnacle Bank Arena
  • Lincoln High School, 1 p.m., Pershing Center
  • Lincoln East High School, 3 p.m., Pinnacle Bank Arena
  • Lincoln Southwest High School, 4 p.m., Pershing Center
  • Lincoln Southeast High School, 6 p.m., Pinnacle Bank Arena
  • Lincoln North Start High School, 7 p.m., Pershing Center

The Bryan Community Focus Program will hold graduation ceremonies as planned at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at Lincoln East High School.

"We have tried to meet the many needs of families, staggering schedules for those who want to attend ceremonies at multiple schools," Hunter-Pirtle said. "We understand this is an important milestone for our students."
