A benefit was held Sunday at Compadre's Tequila Bar for a Lincoln native who is battling brain and lung cancer. Hundreds of people came out to raise money for the family's medical and living expenses.
Karol Floyd is from Lincoln but has moved to Wisconsin to be with her daughter. She said the amount of people who came to the nacho feed and silent auction to support her is "friendship at its finest."
"There are no words to describe how I feel as a person and the love that is shown here to me today," Karol said.
People donated money or bid on a wide range of items at the silent auction, including Husker memorabilia and an autographed Tom Osborne football.
Karol's daughter Taylor was there to support her mom. She said her mom is her best friend and has remained strong throughout her entire journey with cancer.
"My mom is a great person, she deserves all this," Taylor said.
Some of Karol's long–time friends were there. They even made sure everyone danced to one of Karol's favorite songs, the "Electric Slide."
"It makes my heart feel very, very well to know our community supports people in her time of need," Lisa Bickert said.
Karol is currently going through chemotherapy.
The family is still accepting donations. If you would like to donate, you can send a check to:
