Tailgating, for many Husker fans, is almost as important as the game itself.
Next year, fans might get the chance to tailgate like they've never tailgated before.
It's called Blackshirt Village, and if the idea is approved by the Board of Regents, then tailgating just got a lot more sophisticated.
It's the newest concept from the University of Nebraska Athletic Department; a community of all-inclusive tailgating trailers. A fully furnished prototype is open on game days so fans can check it out.
Nebraska Athletics representatives aren't sharing too many details, but according to blackshirtvillage.com, each trailer has a deck, sliding glass doors, a climate-controlled indoor area with three HD TV's, customized couches, and a serving area with a sink and mini refrigerator. There's also a turf observation deck upstairs. The units are constructed from steel shipping containers.
"I really like the up top, the balcony up there, and [it] kind of had a nice sink area, bar area, so yeah, you can definitely have some fun in there," Ferguson said.
The units would be placed in a parking lot northeast of the stadium for next year's season.
First, they need to get approved by the Board of Regents.
An athletic department official said each trailer could cost upwards of $10,000 to rent for the season.
Some tailgaters say people would definitely shell out the cash for it.
