Car thief leads police on a chase

A man is custody after stealing a car and leading police on a chase. Police say 45-year-old Wasim Jihad was arrested. 

The incident started around 1:30 Friday morning at the convenience store near 17th and L Streets. 

Police said they spotted a car that had been reported stolen around 11:00 Thursday afternoon.  They said the Jihad sped off when officers tried to pull over the car.  After a short chase, he bailed out of the car near 16th and E Streets.  Soon after, officers said they took Jihad into custody.  Officials said the stolen car was towed and will be returned to the owner.
