DENVER (AP) More highways in Colorado are reopening and the number of people unaccounted for is dropping as the state works to recover from destructive floods.

The number of residents who haven't been heard from has dropped to around 60, thanks to door-to-door searches and restored communications.

Seven people are known to have died in the floods and three others are missing and presumed dead. Transportation officials have reopened Colorado 119 between County Line and Interstate 25 in Longmont. Colorado 72 to Colorado 7 in Estes Park is also open, and officials are trying to get a stretch of U.S. Highway 34 in Loveland reopened soon.

Officials hope that with fewer communities cut off, fewer people will need emergency shelter. Schools are also making arrangements for students in flooded towns to head back to class. Meanwhile, Coloradans are watching for more spills in flooded oilfields as crews wait for the waters to recede so they can begin cleanup operations. Four new spills were discovered yesterday.
