The defense lawyer for a prison inmate driving a van that killed a Lincoln woman has withdrawn from the case.
Jeremy Dobbe and his attorney Deann Stover appeared in court Thursday morning. Stover made the request. She told the judge Dobbe has been in custody since 2011 and cannot afford the additional experts needed for such an extensive case.
The judge granted her motion and will appoint Dobbe a public defender. Dobbe is charged with manslaughter in the June 25th death of Joyce Meeks. He's accused of driving a corrections work release van that hit Meeks's van killing her. Dobbe was part of an inmate driver program, that has since been discontinued by the Nebraska Department of Corrections.
