Benefit to be held for Lincoln woman with epilepsy

Allison Priess has been living with uncontrollable epilepsy for the past 12 years. To help ease the financial burden, a long-time friend is organizing a benefit.

Several seizures a week have left the 28-year-old with a broken nose and jaw more than once, and bruises on her face. Now, her shoulder needs to be replaced from falling on it too many times.

"It's been getting more difficult and challenging for Allison and her family, and it was just kind of time to try and do something to help," friend Mary Anderson said.

So, Anderson has decided to hold a benefit to help raise money for the family's medical expenses. Both Anderson and Allison's mother said she always puts others before herself.

Allison said this kind of attention is something she isn't used to.

"Really was hard for me to think that other people would want to do those types of things for me," Allison said.

The benefit will be held at Club Q in Lincoln on Nov. 10, and will feature a drag king and queen show, art show and raffle–auction.

Allison's mom said she is humbled by the amount of support she's already seen to help get the benefit underway.

"Part of her disease is that she gets kind of isolated, so it's great to know that they're going to help her and that people want to come out," Jana Kauble said. "And her friends will come out and kind of have a party for her."
