"I was watching TV and I heard the rescue flight come in and all I could see was that and I didn't know what was going on until this morning," says Sherry Brehm, who lives near where the accident took place.
Despite rescue efforts, 39-year-old Chad Kranau was pronounced dead at the scene of Wednesday night's crash.
The Firth man, a husband and father of two, was alone in his pickup when it rolled into a ditch.
"The vehicle, a 2012 Chevrolet pickup, was headed west bound on Sprague road, failed to negotiate the curve at southwest 14th and rolled into a ditch," says Sheriff Terry Wagner.
It's still unclear where Kranau was coming from or where he was headed, but Sheriff Wagner says they don't believe he was wearing a seatbelt.
"We believe alcohol to be a factor, there was evidence of alcohol at the scene," he says.
For those who live nearby, the news of Kranau's death comes as a shock.
"I'm very sorry for the family and my heart goes out to them," says Brehm.
Two of his friends shared messages of support on our Channel 8 Facebook page; both saying he will be missed by many.
