Garage fire temporarily leaves Lincoln family homeless

By: Bill Schammert

A night of pumpkin carving turned dangerous for one Lincoln family on Monday.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue says the family was at their home in Airpark around 7:00 p.m. when they noticed smoke coming from the garage.

When fire crews arrived, they didn't find any fire, but did find extensive smoke damage.

"There was some extensive smoke damage throughout the house," said Battalion Chief Derald Murrell.  "Smoke usually has a lot of chemicals and carcinogens in it, so we don't want them to stay in there."

The Red Cross was on hand to help the family.

Everyone got out safely, but unfortunately, two cats died.

Investigators are still determining a cause, but total damage is estimated to be about $100,000.
