LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Omaha attorney David Domina is eyeing a bid for an open U.S. Senate seat in Nebraska.

If he enters the race, Domina would give Nebraska Democrats a substantial candidate in the race to replace Republican U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns. Domina said Thursday that he was looking hard at the race.

Domina served as a special prosecutor in the impeachment against former University of Nebraska Regent David Hergert in 2006. He also has represented Nebraska landowners in a lawsuit to challenge the Keystone XL pipeline.

Domina says the two-party political system is important, but shouldn't bind candidates in how they vote on an issue.

Johanns announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election in 2014. Four Republicans and a Democrat-turned-independent have already entered the race.
