Police and prosecution are still trying to figure out how and why a mother used online postings to exploit her underaged daughter for sex.
The latest piece of the puzzle?
39–year–old Donald Grafe.
The Columbus truck driver is accused of answering one of the ads, and is charged with having sex with the then 14–year–old at a truck stop in Lincoln last year.
Despite being pointed out by both the mother and daughter in court, Grafe's attorney says he never had sex with the daughter.
The victim's mother, who's currently serving up to 120 years for her crimes, said in court that she and her daughter discussed meeting Grafe together, and that it was a joint decision.
She also stressed her daughter's willing participation, saying "I never forced her to do anything," and "she answered all the ads," even saying "she's kind of materialistic, she wanted the money."
The mother also said that at one point, they told Grafe her daughter was 18, but that "when he found out she was 14, he kind of liked that."
The victim's mother was busted in April 2012 when a state trooper posed as a john, her daughter was with her, and was taken into protective custody.
Through phone records, police say they connected her to Grafe.
They say they found nude photos of both the mother and the daughter on his phone, as well as sexually explicit text messages about future meet–ups.
In court, she says she saw Grafe have sex with her daughter, before having sex with her.
Grafe has not testified
If convicted of child sexual assault, he faces 15 years to life in prison.
