The State Capitol was bursting with the sounds of holiday music for the 66th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Several musical groups including the fifth grade choir from Fredstrom Elementary performed in the Capitol's Rotunda for about 200 people.
First Lady Sally Ganem had the honors of lighting the gigantic Christmas tree, decorated by Capitol staff. It's a tradition that's been around since World War II.
"It's really reaffirming to see a community come together in the spirit of the season instead of commercializing it," Heather Bauer of Lincoln said.
The event was free to the public. Governor Dave Heineman was not in attendance this year.
