McLaughlin charged with 2nd degree murder in beating deaths

The Lancaster County Attorney has amended charges against Richard McLaughlin III in the beating deaths of two Lincoln men.

McLaughlin is now charged with 2nd Degree Murder, Accessory to a Felony, and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony.  McLaughlin is one of two men charged in the crimes.  He and 22-year-old Tyler Thornburg are accused in the June 29th beating deaths of David Mueller and Shane Walton.

Police say the two suspects are part of a gang called "True Blue Soldiers."  Police say that night, the gang was issued a challenge to make a name for themselves.  That's when police say the men saw Mueller walking by and they beat him with a baseball bat.  Walton was beaten at another location an hour later.

A preliminary hearing for McLaughlin is set for January 28 in Lancaster County Court.
