Senator Amanda McGill announced her candidacy for State Auditor Thursday.

"It's with a great deal of excitement and determination that I announce that I'm a candidate for the Nebraska State Auditor position," she said.

She's hoping to fill current State Auditor and gubernatorial candidate, Mike Foley's, shoes.

Her biggest goal? Not wasting Nebraska's tax dollars.

"Like many Nebraskans, I've had to work multiple jobs to make ends meet and have learned to live within a frugal budget, just like state government should," McGill said.

McGill is the only democrat running for State Auditor, and as the only woman on the ballot, she's hoping others will follow her example.

"I tell so many women to take positive risks and be leaders in their community and so this is me living the life that I'm preaching to others as well," McGill said.

She is not unopposed, however. Senator Pete Pirsch is the republican candidate. We talked to him last October when he announced he's running.

"It takes somebody who is willing to fight against big government mismanagement, so you got to have the right tools, the right experience and I have that," Pirsch said.

Today McGill kicked off her 15-city tour across Nebraska.
