53-year-old Cameron Mitchell has been sentenced to 30 years in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons for robbing seven banks in Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs, between June 23, 2012, and August 24, 2012. The sentencing took place in U.S. District Court in Lincoln.
Mitchell pleaded guilty to the charges last October. Authorities say Mitchell walked into the bank's lobbies armed with a handgun, and then jumped over the counters and into the tellers' areas where he took money from the teller drawers and put it into bags he carried with him.
Following completion of his sentence, Mitchell will be required to serve five years of supervised release, and will also be required to pay $74,179.73 in restitution to the victim banks.
Investigation and prosecution of these cases was coordinated with the cooperation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Omaha Police Department, Council Bluffs Police Department, Lincoln Police Department and the United States Attorney's Offices in Nebraska and the Southern District of Iowa.
