Lincoln Police say 53–year–old Teresa Michaud was killed in a three–car crash Tuesday near 24th and Superior.
They say she likely suffered a medical episode while driving east on Superior St. at 5:30 pm when she suddenly crossed the median, driving into oncoming traffic.
The accident report says Michaud's Buick clipped the back of an SUV, then slammed head-on into a second car at a high rate of speed.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Her path that she took to veer so suddenly across the median into other lanes in indicative of a medical episode," Officer Katie Flood said. "In contrast, when someone falls asleep it's usually a gradual veer into other lanes but in this case it was a sudden change in course."
More than a dozen emergency vehicles responded to the scene, shutting down Superior St. for a couple of hours while police investigated.
The two other drivers and a 7–year–old passenger were taken to Bryan West with non–life threatening injuries.
"The female driver complained of neck and back pain while the male driver suffered a broken ankle and his daughter a broken clavicle."
The crash is still under investigation.
Also, the county attorney has not ordered an autopsy.
