$127,000 Purchase Order for Replacement of Poor Quality Wooden Ties; Second Order for Testing Specialty Application as Company Anticipates Additional Orders in Coming Months

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J., Feb. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AXION International Holdings, Inc. (OTCQB: AXIH), a leader in recycled plastic and plastic composite technologies used to produce ECOTRAX® rail ties/sleepers and STRUXURE® building products, today announced a second purchase order from an international freight line for its ECOTRAX® 100% recycled plastic rail ties.

ECOTRAX® will be used for a specialty application for replacement of wood timbers on bridges. The first order had been installed in specialty application areas such as turnout switch-sets and transoms including ties installed on open bridges. The two orders combined total approximately $200,000.

"The positive and consistent reception for our ECOTRAX® rail ties has been apparent, and this second order from a major international freight line was a great win for the Company," stated Cory Burdick, AXION's ECOTRAX® Sales Manager. "We have been able to increase existing orders due to our ability to successfully and economically address the growing concern for replacing wood ties as they reach the end of their useful life prematurely due to rot, erosions and other factors. Our ties have proven their ability to withstand harsh environments and in fact, have excelled in areas where the environment tends to degrade traditional wooden ties. We are very excited that we have not only proven superior product performance but have also made tremendous progress in diversifying our global customer base."

ECOTRAX® composite rail ties are made from AXION's patented, 100%-recycled plastic formulation. Because they are inert, ECOTRAX® rail ties will not rot or absorb moisture, and they are impervious to insect infestation. Setting the industry standard for composite rail ties, ECOTRAX® rail ties meet and exceed all American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association specifications and are continuously tested at third-party laboratories and in track. ECOTRAX® rail ties feature long life cycles and excel in the harshest conditions, making them a cost-effective choice in road crossings, switches and turnouts, open-deck bridges, and freight line tracks.
