Attempted burglary using blow torch

For the second time this year, a local Lincoln business is the target of an attempted burglary early this morning.

It happened at The Coinery on Cotner Boulevard in the Piedmont Center.

Police say a man attempted to use a blow torch to cut his way into the building, but no luck.

Nothing was taken from the business, but there is damage to the store's door totaling around $1500.

This isn't the first time a blow torch has been used to try to break into businesses in that area.

In January, someone tried to use a blow torch to break into the Coinery and neighboring business, the groom room.

"We've seen an increase overall in calls to the Piedmont Shopping Center just in the last four months. Officers are aware of this and have increased patrols in the area," Officer Katie Flood said.

Police say they believe these incidents might be related, but they are still investigating.
