The Alzheimer's Association is bringing Vegas to Lincoln.

The Great Plains Chapter will be hosting the annual Gala February 22, 2014.

This year's theme builds upon the success of the 2013 event.

Champagne and Diamonds, Vegas Style will be held at The Cornhusker Marriott Hotel, with cocktails at 5:30p.m. and the Gala beginning at 6:30p.m.

"Not only will you be raising money for a wonderful organization and a great cause but also it's going to be a fun event and a fun evening," says Mark Taylor with the Alzheimer's Association.

This tradition has been a long-standing event in our community that raises tens of thousands of dollars to assist those diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S.

There is no cure, no preventative and no treatment available.

Taylor Woullard is taking care of her 55-year-old mother, who was diagnosed, with the form of dementia, last year.

"My mom could wake up tomorrow and be combative towards me or be loving and caring towards me and remember me, so it can go either way," explains Woullard.

Woullard is working to earn her CNA license, which will allow her to stay home, as mom's health declines.

The 22-year-old says it's taken a lot of paperwork and patience to get to this point and she understands there are more challenges ahead.

Woullard says, "Someday they won't know who you are completely; they won't remember their grandchildren... that is very hard to deal with."

Saturday night, Woullard and her mother's story will be highlighted at the Alzheimer's Association Gala.
