LINCOLN – Lincoln Electric System has received many reports of a scam in which a caller, posing as an LES employee, contacted business customers alleging they were delinquent on their electric bill. The caller urged customers to immediately supply their credit or debit card information over the phone for payment.

LES representatives say eight incidents were reported on Friday, but none of the businesses contacted fell for the scam or made any payments. The number had a 402 area code.

LES reminds customers that it will not solicit them for bill payment or financial information through outbound phone calls, online or cold call customers to provide services.

If you think you've been contacted by a scammer, contact law enforcement immediately. To verify the status of your LES account, call 402-475-4211 or visit LES at 1040 O Street.
