Students from McPhee Elementary marched over to the Capitol Monday in celebration of their Read-A-Thon.
It was all part of Read Across America Week. For 10 minutes every day, students and staff dropped everything and read. Last week, McPhee Elementary read 300 minutes as a whole.
"We know that it's really important for our students to be good readers. We know that literacy and that ability to read is what helps them be successful in school and beyond and helps them graduate from high school, helps them go onto college and so we really want to develop that love of reading in our students," principal Elaine Simpson said.
Some students raised some money while reading. The winner, who led the march, raised more than $100 for her school through a pledge for her reading minutes. The students raised several hundred dollars as a whole.
