It's been 25 years since Mike Kimmons heard the purr of his Corvette's engine.
"We had lunch with Mike, and Mike kept mentioning numerous times, he'd like to get his old '64 Corvette running," his friend Dave Rusk said.
The former marine is fighting a losing battle with cancer. Mike told his friends he wanted to take a ride with his wife, Nancy, one last time.
Six weeks later, that's exactly what he got, but it was all a surprise.
Mike said he thought he was just coming home to spend time with his brother.
"I thought what the heck are all these people doing here?" Mike said.
That's when his old Corvette drove in.
"It's been a tough–go here, the prognosis is somewhat questionable at this point, so we wanted an opportunity to say 'hi here's a nice little present for you in hopes that it makes you feel better," Rusk said.
Mike said it was hard to describe in words how he felt when he first saw his car coming down the driveway.
"I was very shocked I didn't expect any of this," Mike said.
It's a dream come true for this veteran and his family.
