Prosecutors charged Kent Burklund with 2nd Degree Murder Wednesday in the death of his wife, Bettina. The body of the 41-year-old was found in their southeast Lincoln home Monday afternoon. The judge also set Burklund's bond at $1 million cash.
Police say Burklund argued with his wife Sunday, killed her and left the home. He was found Monday afternoon at Conestoga Lake where he was taken into custody. Court documents say Burklund admitted to killing her. He says he left the house and spent the night at an area lake. A knife was found next to Bettina's body. No other details have been released about her death pending an autopsy.
Coworkers say Bettina Burklund was well-respected and beloved. A fund has been set up in her name at Liberty First Credit Union. Her funeral is this Saturday at Heritage Presbyterian Church in Lincoln at 10 a.m.
