The Saunders County Sheriff's Office confirms that a mountain lion was seen Monday morning near Wahoo.
Sheriff Kevin Stukenholtz says a driver noticed a mountain lion feeding on a deer carcass on Highway 77 about a mile and a half south of Wahoo. The call came in around 4:30 a.m. He says a sheriff's deputy was dispatched to the area, and after shining his light into nearby trees, noticed a mountain lion jump down and run off.
The Wahoo community hospital is located about a half mile from where the big cat was spotted. Stukenholtz says the facility was notified.
According to Stukenholtz, the last mountain lion sighting in the area was two to three years ago.
