The Great Plains Bicycling Club hosted a Ride of Silence on Wednesday.  Ride of Silence began in Dallas, TX in 2003 as an informal memorial after a local cyclist was killed by a passing bus.  Since 2003, the Ride of Silence has become an annual event held simultaneously in more than 100 cities world-wide.

The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no more than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride.  There are no brochures, sponsors or registration fees.  The ride which is held during bike safety month, aims to raise awareness of the public that cyclists have a legal right to use public roadways.  The ride is also a chance to show respect to those cyclist killed or injured while biking on public roads.
