Lincoln is on a mission to become the healthiest city in the nation. Whether it's dancing or going for a walk, residents are being challenged to get up and move.
"Improve health whether you're trying to lose weight, get stronger, get faster, become an Olympic athlete," US Olympic bobsledder and Nebraska native Curt Tomasevicz said.
Tomasevicz and Mayor Chris Beutler kicked off Move More Lincoln Wednesday morning. It's a summer long program with a goal of 5 million minutes of physical activity.
"Movement helps so much with your overall health and well being," Bryan Health President and CEO Kim Russel said. "We are certainly trying to reduce obesity in our community and doing everything possible to make Lincoln the healthiest city in the nation."
Here's how it works, you create an online account then track your everyday activities like running, biking, playing sports or mowing the lawn. It's free and encouraged for everyone. The website also gives tips for healthy living and information on Lincoln resources for people who want to be more active.
"With younger kids, we're looking for 60 minutes for three days a week and with some of the adult population, if you can be active for 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week, that's pretty awesome," Tomasevicz said.
The challenge will end on September 14th at the Streets Alive! festival.
