Michael Petersen, 58, was sentenced in Buffalo County District Court Wednesday afternoon. He was given life in prison without Parole for the shooting death of his ex-wife, Nancy. Nancy Petersen's body was found in her home last November in rural Kearney. Petersen pleaded no contest to first degree murder in April.

He also faces a similar charge in Hall County District Court in the shooting death of Grand Island attorney Todd Elsbernd. Elsbernd was found shot to death outside his Grand Island office in November. That case is still pending.

Court documents say Nancy Petersen filed for divorce from Michael in 2002. The divorce was finalized in 2005. Elsbernd was Michael Petersen's attorney for a part of the divorce proceedings. Documents say he wasn't happy with the representation and filed a complaint against Elsbernd in 2009.
