OMAHA, NE- Murderer Nikko Jenkins will undergo a mental evaluation after cutting himself in prison. Officials with Judge Batallion, the judge overseeing Jenkins' case, confirm that Jenkins will go to the Lincoln Regional Center after he cut his face and lips. He is currently being held at the Lincoln Correctional Center, awaiting a death penalty hearing in August.

State psychiatrists will perform the evaluation at the Lincoln Regional Center. A defense psychiatrist recently filed documents stating Jenkins's mental state had deteriorated rapidly. The doctor says Jenkins is no longer competent to face a death penalty hearing. State psychiatrists have said Jenkins is pretending to have a mental illness.
Jenkins pleaded guilty to the murders of four people in Omaha during a 10 day murder spree in August 2013.
