Aspiring composer John Kosch is packing his bags and heading to New York City.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln junior is being honored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers for a jazz piece he wrote last semester. The National Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award is given to several young musician each year.
"It's unreal to be getting a phone call from New York in general, let alone somebody from such a big organization," Kosch said.
The UNL Jazz Orchestra performed Kosch's work, a big band composition, back in December. The awards presentation is this Monday in Manhattan.
