UPDATED INFO: Lincoln police say the man has been identified as 56-year-old Paul Bellew of Lincoln. The incident remains under investigation.
Police say a 56-year-old man died just before 11 p.m. Monday after being run over by a train.
It happened near 35th and Adams around 8 p.m.
The man was walking along the tracks when he tripped and fell onto the tracks. He was pinned underneath a rail car.
Police say the train sounded its whistle, but the man did not hear them. Once he crossed the tracks, he stumbled backwards and fell into the path of the westbound freight train.
Police had Burlington Northern stop all train activity in the area.
