With the launch of the American History app for iPad, an enhanced edition of each issuereplete with interactive features including video, audio, animation, and additional exclusive contentwill be available in the iTunes Store.

Our digital interactive editions give us tremendous opportunities to tell the American story with depth and detail simply not available on the printed page, said American History editor and Weider History Editor in Chief, Roger L. Vance. Our presence on the Apple Newsstand will enhance our exposure and ease of access exponentiallyand expand our reach to a truly global audience.

While American History has embraced this exciting new platform, Vance assures readers its authoritative, non-partisan editorial content will remain the standard bearer in the field.

As do our readers, we take history seriously, but that doesnt mean dull, and the digital editions will only accentuate how we consistently make history alive and relevant, said Vance. We see this platform as truly transformational by engaging a broader and younger audienceand offering a gateway to the digital spectrum for our existing readership.

The inaugural digital edition via iTunes is the June issue, which features an unknown facet of General George Custers career immediately after the Civil War when he was sent to Texas to protect freed slaves and Union stalwarts. Custer observed and later testified to Congress in chilling detail about the postwar terror sweeping the state. His predictions of the failures of Reconstruction and the eventual imposition of Jim Crow law on the South proved too true.

Other June features cover the D-Day invasion, with an expanded portfolio of stunning photography and the audio of General Eisenhowers message to the Allied troops on June 6, 1944; a rich retrospective of the breakthrough photography of Dorothea Lange, complete with a historic video interview; Ray Raphaels revealing story of the little-known 1774 revolution before the Revolution, accompanied by an entertaining talk by the author; and a look at the amazing crop of Hollywood classics of 1939, with a special collection of vivid vintage movie posters.

The August digital issue of American History will also be available on iTunes beginning Aug. 1.
