Two new garages in the West Haymarket are opening in the next couple of months.
Haymarket parking issues are nothing new to Lincoln residents, but some say they worsened after the completion of the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
"I've spent like 20 minutes trying to find a spot and sometimes I don't even want to come downtown because parking is such a pain," Erin Snyder of Lincoln said.
City of Lincoln Parking Manager Wayne Mixdorf says relief is right around the corner. By September 1st, two new parking garages along Arena Drive will push West Haymarket parking capacity to more than 4,000 vehicles.
"Now it really opens up the Arena Drive to the west because now you can access 2,600 parking spaces in those three garages just by coming in from that direction," Mixdorf said.
Finishing touches are being put on a 950-stall garage at Pinnacle Arena Drive and O Street. Mixdorf says it's set to open by the beginning of August. The garage directly north of it should be open in the first week of September, freeing up another 700 spots.
