Shauntel Hutchinson and Kelli Sumpter call themselves The Blonde Fighters.

"We are blond, and we are fighting, fighting for a cause," they said.

Each have been diagnosed with cancer, but are now cancer free. The two, along with the rest of their team, came out in full force for this year's Relay for Life event.

"Overwhelming, very inspirational, couldn't ask for better friends, family," the two said.

In addition to the walk, there were games and plenty of activities for all who participated.

Jenna Harrison and Jami Heath, both 16, lost their grandmothers to breast cancer. They raised awareness by selling bedazzled bras.

"They go through a lot of stuff, and whatever to help them out," Heath said.

"It is something that is prevalent that we need to be able to hopefully find a cure for," Harrison added.

Organizers said there were 90 teams this year, totaling about 1,500 participants and 650 cancer survivors.

Mary Foerster's been on the committee for several years. The event has significant meaning for her. She said she's been cancer free for 11 years.

"You know you're not alone in this fight," she said. "It's just great to be around people that have been touched, and you're all here for the same reason."

THE EVENT will run until midnight. Organizers said about $185,000 has been raised so far.
