SALT LAKE CITY, UT, July 16, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A Salt Lake City engineer has solved a common, frustrating household problem: lights left on in empty rooms for hours at a time. BrightSwitch remembers when you forget! The innovative BrightSwitch device lets you easily set lights to go off after a certain amount of time -- ending the energy waste of burning lights.
BrightSwitch replaces the existing light switch cover. All of the electronics are concealed in the easy-to-install cover, so it looks identical to a traditional switch cover. Best of all, it's easy to use: simply set the time adjustment to the length of time a room is typically occupied -- 15 minutes to 12 hours -- and never worry about left-on lights again.
Incandescent light bulbs give off 90 percent of the electricity they use as heat. Only 10 percent results in light. Even for energy-efficient CFL bulbs, the U.S Department of Energy recommends turning them off if you will be out of the room for more than 15 minutes.
"It's so frustrating to realize that every single light in my house is on. Every single one. And it happens all too often," said Laura Hildebrand, daughter of inventor Ray Simon. "With four kids, some days it feels like all I do is walk around turning off lights."
Ray Simon is an engineer with a long career working for defense contractors that develop cutting-edge technologies and products. But as a father and grandfather, he is keenly aware of the problem of lights burning for hours and days on end. He created BrightSwitch as a simple, cost-effective solution to the problem.
- Needs no batteries or extra wiring
- Works with all lighting including incandescent, halogen, fluorescent, CFL and LED
- Works with ceiling fans and bathroom ventilation fans
- Also works with three-way switches
- Repeats the time cycle when lights are turned off and then back on
- Available in white, light almond and ivory
BrightSwitch is a new and simple solution to an old problem: turning off forgotten lights. Its mission is to reduce power bills and global energy consumption with an easy-to-use, cost-effective technology.
