Business donates bikes, books

One by one, Star City Heating and Cooling unloaded more than 20 bikes for Christian Heritage Homes, an organization dedicated to helping kids in the foster care system. Each one of the bikes will go to a child in the program who doesn't have one to ride.

"Words don't describe that feeling that you get when you're able to help somebody," Star City Heating and Cooling co-owner Keith McRoberts said.

Not only did the business give away several bikes, but they also donated a lot of books just like this one, all for a program called Destination Dad.

The program has served more than 430 families for the past five years. Christian Heritage works with the Nebraska Department of Corrections to take a video of the dad reading a book aloud.

"We record them and then they send them out to their kids and they're able to read along with the book with their dad," Family Outreach supervisor AJ Santos said.

That way the kids feel like their dad is right there with them.

"We have a lot of caregivers and moms who tell us that the kids will watch that DVD every night until we do another one," Santos said.

Star City Heating and Cooling said they collected the bikes and books from several people across the area. Christian Heritage said they're always taking donations. For more information go to
