A new start in tornado-ravaged Pilger.

Every beginning has a foundation, and Kim and Ted Neiman had theirs ready to go for their new modular home.

"I'm excited. I'm tearful for happy reasons. I'm just so ecstatic that we're gonna be able to be moving in soon," Kim Neiman said.

It’s the first house to go up since that EF-4 tornado destroyed the town of 350 on June 16, taking 80 percent of the village with it.

Crews started on the Neiman’s house early Thursday morning.

And within an hour, it was put into place.

Neighbors say it’s just a sign of what’s to come.

"I think it shows somebody's gonna build. And I think that's what we need. Is to start seeing some of this stuff," Betty Ann Wyatt, Pilger Resident, said.

For Kim, the Village Clerk, rebuilding was never a question.

"Well from the first minute we saw the tornado and then when we came back in and saw what it had done to the town and it was never in my mind to leave Pilger," she said.

Most of the homes left standing are damaged beyond repair. But Ray Stahla of Stahla Homes, says this isn’t the only house in the works.

"We've probably got 2 or 3 other people that are looking to put houses in," he said.

"We'll be bigger and better; we're too tough to die," Kim said.

The Neimans hope to be in their house within the next two weeks.

The town’s bank and Co-Op have already said they plan to rebuild in Pilger as well.
