After sharing some unfortunate news this week, the Hoffman family needed a little pick-me-up.
The entire Hoffman clan spent Thursday evening at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City to cheer on former Husker and good friend Rex Burkhead. Dad Andy says seeing Burkhead always makes Jack's Day- a needed boost following the 8-year-old's most recent diagnosis.
Jack Hoffman will need another round of chemotherapy.
"He was in remission as of October 2013, and as of just yesterday we learned that he's going to need some more therapy," Andy Hoffman told KMBC News in Kansas City.
Andy wrote on his son's Caring Bridge website on Wednesday that Jack's cancer is back. The tumor thought to be in remission last October is growing again.
He goes on to say:
"Thank you everyone for your prayers and support. Jack is doing great. This is a mild setback and everyone remains optimistic for Jack including and especially his mom and dad. We love you and can't thank you enough for the support."
It was nothing a brownie sundae and a visit with Rex couldn't help.
"He's one of my best friends," Jack said of the Bengal running back.
The friendship led to that ESPY-winning touchdown that made Jack an overnight celebrity. Through Team Jack efforts, he's bringing awareness to child brain cancer all around the country, something Rex has been a major part of.
The family says they're considering surgery or another round of chemotherapy.
