U.S. airdrops food and water to Iraqis

On President Barack Obama's order, the U.S. military airdropped food and water to thousands of Iraqis threatened by Islamic militants, the Pentagon said Thursday night.

According to a senior defense officials, the humanitarian assistance was dropped by U.S. aircraft near the town of Sinjar in northwestern Iraq,  home of the religious minorities, Yezidis.

Lincoln, NE has one of the largest Yezidi populations in the U.S.  Sunday, they rallied in front of the governors mansion and Tuesday many left for Washington D.C. to ask the U.S. government to step in and help their people.


The White House is considering direct military strikes in Iraq, to help stop the advances of an Islamic militant group.
